Why we have a moral responsibility to vote yes on CA Prop 50
Republicans ALL voted NO to end Gerrymandering
On October 21, 2021, all 50 Senate Republicans blocked the Freedom to Vote Act proposed by Democrats, which would have ended partisan gerrymandering. All 220 House Democrats voted in favor, while zero of the 212 Republicans voted for it. The House of Representatives already has a +16 seat rigged advantage due to gerrymandering across the country. Mike Johnson would not be in power if there was already districting fairness in the first place. As a result, Mike Johnson being the majority leader, has essentially ceded what is supposed to be an independent branch of government (Congress is Article 1 of the Constitution for a reason) and Johnson is actively condoning and/or aiding 163 illegal, corrupt, and morally bankrupt major offenses carried out by MAGA & POTUS 47, according to my current tracker. Note: The entire Epstein Scandal counts as just 1 of the 163 offenses. 92 of these offenses on this list are clearly illegal, 11 are direct threats to our elections, and all of these have occurred just since January 2025. No president has ever asked states to change maps mid-cycle for their own advantage. Missouri followed Texas's lead, doing as instructed by Trump, and Indiana and others will likely follow soon. Per the Texas hearing on their redistricting, it came out in court that lead GOP map maker Adam Kincaid admitted that he took direction only from the White House and Republican members of Congress, and ignored input from public hearings, having numerous contacts with the White House and U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) over the redistricting effort — including sending messages on Signal that were set to automatically delete. A redistricting expert testified that the map achieved “partisan objectives by focusing on race."
Already unfair, +16 Republican seats
2024 district maps across all 50 states had an unfair +16 seat advantage due to Republican-led state legislatures watering down the voters of Democrats in urban centers. Despite these maps, Republicans only control the majority by a few seats. If Democrats do not fight back in which is currently not an illegal process, this number will climb to at least + 27 or even up to + 31, (see map below) making it unlikely that the will of the American people will be able to put in place a check and balance against this current administration and set of law makers, continually breaking laws.
163 illegal, corrupt, and morally bankrupt offenses, just since January
Pardoning all Jan 6th violent rioters who stopped the election certification and beat police also counts as just 1 of the legal offenses! 92 of the 163 offenses we've carefully tracked, are illegal. Together, these 163 offenses required many more hundreds of individual atrocious actions by dozens of enablers, not just Trump. Of the 163, 11 are direct threats to our elections, and all of these have occurred just since January 2025!

Pattern of behavior
The illegal 2019 quid pro quo regarding Zelensky conducted by Trump, meddling in that election, is a fact. The collection of efforts from November 2020 to January 6, 2021, by Trump and other MAGA to undermine the 2020 election indeed occurred. Roger Stone, Rudy Giuliani, and a dozen other Trump administration officials conducted illegal activities that were uncovered later. All of this is true. It's a fact that a total of 147 MAGA members of Congress signed on to the lawsuit to not certify the 2020 election. Now in 2025, protections from foreign influence on our elections have already been systematically undermined, just since February of this year. Imagine what is going on behind the scenes that we don't know about yet!!?!!
Compounded repercussions with lasting effects already
Our state of California is putting Proposition 50 up for us state citizens to vote on. Our Senate representation here in CA is 51 times less powerful than a registered voter in Vermont by Constitutional design. The House of Reps is slightly more fair. The House district maps should not be gerrymandered at all, but they are, due to a McConnel-Trump-compromised Supreme Court reaching a slim majority decision (5 to 4), which ruled not to weigh in and let this unfairness continue, keeping it legal. Justice Kegan's dissent reads, "Of all times to abandon the Court's duty to declare the law, this was not the one. The practices challenged in these cases imperil our system of government. Part of the Court's role in that system is to defend its foundations. None is more important than free and fair elections. With respect but deep sadness, I dissent." It was the Trump-appointed, Republican Senate-confirmed Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh that tipped the scale, otherwise, we wouldn't have slipped this severely down a dark path. Don't forget what happened to Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland, giving us Gorsuch. Obama chose Merrick Garland from the Republican list of nominees, back when 60 votes were needed. McConnell switched it to 50 votes, held out the seat vacant for 10 months and then also rammed through Justice Ginsburg's seat within weeks of her passing on September 18, 2020. The loss of our Democracy was fast-tracked then. Republicans bent the rules back then without shame. Kavanaugh worked on the impeachment of Bill Clinton and is now twisting into a pretzel to give leeway to illegal Trump actions. Once and always a political hack, compromising the Supreme Court for a generation.
This is not the party of John McCain - none of this is normal or acceptable
All of this is related. Our system of checks and balances has been slowly eroding for years and now it risks eroding at an exponential rate. This MAGA-led Republican Party is not a Conservative Republican Party at all. John McCain would not be welcome. Mitt Romney and literally all other reasonable Republicans have been forced out. Just ask yourself: why is JD Vance the VP rather than Mike Pence?
The risks are too high
Do I trust that California Democrats will do the right thing and restore the district maps once the dust settles? Prop 50 is written to do so, but wake up; connect the dots one step further. There will be no dust to settle if we don't act now, within our legal rights. Troops are still being deployed into U.S. cities for political purposes, even after it was clearly determined to be illegal. Alleged drug traffickers are being killed by our military in international waters, rather than being detained, evidence collected, tried, and convicted. The Trump admin deported alleged criminals with NO DUE PROCESS claiming it was too dangerous to keep them in our country while at exactly the same time, accepting detained drug cartel leaders INTO the U.S. in order to put them in a secure place during their trials. Both cannot be true. Due process is the point! Trump administration lawyers have been caught lying in court about U.S. citizen children being asked to be deported by their non-citizen parents. The DOJ is now routinely weaponized against political opponents. Attempts to change the census are underway. The security protection for political opponents was pulled by, knowing full well that some of these "political enemies" were direct targets of assassination by foreign governments -- there is zero rationale for this, other than political revenge. The free press is being pushed out of the White House, out of military briefings, and free speech is being directly attacked by a weaponized executive branch. Violence is being incorrectly amplified as a "left" problem, with this government leadership themselves, using cherry-picked instances as a tool to "channel anger" towards "the left". Violence by "the Right" has already been pardoned and condoned. No one should be keeping score. There are not two "sides". All of it should be equally condemned by our leaders. Not so.

Yes, we have a moral obligation to vote yes on CA Prop 50
A political "high horse" is an understandable moral stance, but please keep in mind that the moral atrocities and risks to all of our children's futures is getting more severe by the week. Until gerrymandering itself can be made illegal, it is too risky in our humble opinion, to claim some political moral high ground while letting what is happening to legal TPS migrants, USAID, law firms, universities, climate policies, and an unprecedented level of blatantly corrupt actions, going completely unchecked. If polls are showing unfavourability towards MAGA, do you think they will not find new ways to cast doubt on election results? All the evidence you need on their willingness to undermine the entire system is already there. "What-about-ism" rebuttals for an imperfect Democratic party are a non-starter in this decision. We here at possibillion.org are independents. Breaking the two party dynamic is the goal, but we need to still have independent democratic institutions in place, and a rule of law still in place, to have a chance at passing laws. YES, YES, YES, on 50.
